Let's start with the most exciting...Daxton took his first steps on June 26, I know, I'm way behind on posts. That morning he was acting like he wanted to walk but didn't. Then, my mom came over later that day. She had been at girl's camp all week and came over so I could go to the store. She sat in one of our dining room chairs, I sat Daxton down in front of her, and he took two steps towards her! That little stinker! It is well known around here that he is a momma's boy yet his first step were to Grandma. She was so happy she started to tear up so that made it worth it. He hasn't done much walking since, but he did take three steps to me yesterday.
The night before the first steps we had our first trip to the emergency room. That was a bit of excitement I don't care to ever go through again. I was making dinner and, like always, there were toys strewn across the kitchen floor. Also on the floor was an over thermometer that Daxton liked to take out the oven drawer. Quinn ran across the floor and cut his foot between his first and second toe. I had my back to him but heard him cry in a way I have never heard before. I ran over, saw blood, and immediately scooped him up, tossed that stupid thermometer in the garbage, and rinsed off his foot.
Once I got a towel on his cut to stop the bleeding I called Christian to ask him if he could come home a few minutes early from his lunch to take Quinn to the hospital. We are so grateful that Christian works so close to home. To add to the excitement, Daxton crawled over to heat vent and took the cover off then fell in the heat vent while I was trying to stop Quinn's bleeding. I told Quinn to hold still and ran over to Dax, made sure he wasn't bleeding, and brought him next to me and Quinn. I had to crying boys to tend to. Christian could not have come home soon enough.
Well, Chris took Quinn to the hospital, and I was planning on putting Daxton in bed. I stood at the kitchen sink trying to calm down and take in everything that happened when I saw my visiting teacher walk up to our door with a plate of brownies. She was sent by Heavenly Father. We are so blessed. She asked if I wanted to go to the hospital to be with Quinn, which of course I did! She took Dax even though she already had her van full with her four kids, but she had one extra seat for him. She dropped me off at the ER and took Daxton until we were done. What a blessing!
Quinn recovered very quickly from his cut. He is doing great and is active as ever!
Another first is potty training officially started this week. I've done a little bit of reading about it. Probably not as much as I should, but I normally do things learning as I go. I am trying to remain positive and encouraging. I just don't like messes, but I know there really isn't any way to avoid a mess during this process. Quinn is doing good though. He's been wearing underwear all week. I'm hoping he catches on real quick.
Finally, it is Daxton's first birthday tomorrow! We already had a little celebration for him and Christian when Jeff and Rachel were in town, but we will do another one this weekend. I can't believe it was a year ago that I went through a drug free labor and delivery to have Daxton. Not that it went by fast or anything (it was a long winter), but it is fun to look back and remember the day he was born. I will have more on his birthday later.
Oh, and another one. Quinn conked out somewhere outside of his bed. I have always wondered if this would ever happen. There are those kids who curl up and go to sleep anywhere when they are tired, but Quinn is my weekend warrior and will go until we put him in his bed. This particular day he did not take a nap, and we were going to go shopping with my parents. I was trying to get the boys ready, and Quinn was crying at me and would not stop. I snuggled him in the recliner, and he drifted off to sleep while watching the ceiling fan. He was out!
